Today in Music News: Rivers Cuomo hospitalized, Kennedy Center Honors Bruce Springsteen, Morrissey tour opener, 40th anniversary of Altamont
- Say it ain't so! "Weezer's Rivers Cuomo hospitalized following bus accident."
- Kennedy Center Honors: Bruce Springsteen, jazz pianist/composer Dave Brubek, opera singer Grace Bumbry--plus Robert De Niro (seen chatting with the Boss) and Mel Brooks, who probably gave the best acceptance speech.
- Morrissey, who performs at Fox Theatre in Pomona Monday, "favors solo material in tour opener."
- Today marks the 40th anniversary of the infamous Altamont Free Concert where the Rolling Stones headlined and a member of the Hell's Angels, which were providing security, stabbed to death an 18-year-old who allegedly pulled a gun. After the jump: Footage from the excellent 1970 doc Gimme Shelter of an understandably scared and concerned Mick Jagger pleading with the unruly crowd--check out the close-ups, not a sober face to be found--to "cool out" while in the middle of "Sympathy for the Devil." As the comments attest, there's still much controversy regarding the Hell's Angels role in the killing.
