Incoming: Steve Martin at Orange County Performing Arts Center

Celebrities often take unexpected paths late in their careers. Jane Fonda put out workout videos. George Foreman sells grills. Francis Ford Coppola directed Jack. And Steve Martin, legendary comedic figure he is, has taken to nurturing his love of playing banjo, as evidenced by his The Crow: New Songs for the 5-String Banjo album, which came out earlier this year.

He'll be playing those "new songs for the 5-string banjo" along with his band, the Steep Canyon Rangers, on October 30 at the Orange County Performing Arts Center--which happens to be Martin's debut at the center. The Jerk star grew up in Orange County, having lived in Garden Grove and attended junior college in Santa Ana. He also worked at Disneyland for three years, and remained a presence there until recently, through his appearance in the Disneyland: The First 50 Magical Years video, which was part of the recently closed exhibit of the same name in Main Street, U.S.A.

Other than banjo, he'll probably tell some jokes, too, though it's not exactly clear. The press release says it'll be "an unforgettable evening filled with laughter and music." So he'll probably at least say something funny. And some of the songs are funny. Either way, it'll be very surprising if he's totally humorless throughout the performance.

Tickets go on sale this Saturday, August 23, for $43-$68.
