Sonic Youth Coming to the Fox Theater!
Following last month's Wilco show, the Fox is hosting another legendary, iconic, add your own superlative here band--Sonic Youth. Though it would be nice to say that they "haven't slowed down," their most recent, June's The Eternal (read our review by Michael Coyle here) was three years after their last studio album, Rather Ripped. That's the longest period of time between new Sonic Youth records in the band's nearly 30 years, but practically an instant given the output of some bands. (We're at 3.5+ years and counting since the last Strokes album for instance.)
Most importantly, Sonic Youth is still really great live, with the noisy vitality of songs like "100%" still holding up. Here's a picture I took when I saw them in October 2004 in NYC. Yeah, you can barely see anything, but it's the still boyish (somehow) Thurston Moore on top of a really tall speaker. He was 46 at this point!
It would be even cooler if you could see what was going on, trust me!
