TONIGHT: Jason Lytle at Art Theatre of Long Beach

There is a ton of stuff happening around our towns tonight, not the least of which is former Grandaddy lead singer Jason Lytle at the Art Theatre in Long Beach.

Sounds like a promising show, just for the venue alone. I was at Greater California's album release concert there a couple of months ago, and, somewhat unsurprisingly, it turns out that a cool movie theater is really a novel place to see a gig. Doug Wallen interviewed Jason Lytle for last week's OC Weekly (check that out here), and our good pal Ben Westhoff reviewed his solo debut, Yours Truly, the Commuter, for our soul sistas SF Weekly. The charming men of Long Beach's Two Guns open, along with LB/OC's O's and the Oculist. Plus, tomorrow the new film adaptation of Noël Coward's Easy Virtue opens at the theater, somewhat improbably starring Jessica Biel. That doesn't really have a lot to do with music, but whatev.

Also tonight: Aushua plays their first local show in a bit at Detroit Bar, the second night of the Gypsy Lounge residency from this week's Sound Guy stars the Union Line, Elephant Day and Cosmodelion play Avalon, the previously mentioned tour kickoff show from the Sequence at DiPiazza's, Paper Planes at the Prospector and She Wants Revenge over at the Glass House. Whew!
